Far from the beginning...

Hello non-existent readers,

This is our way of documenting the ongoing work needed in our beloved Apt 24.  Now, from the beginning it was a fixer-upper.  The floors and cabinets were all new, but there were a few things that we had to fight to have fixed (or not even fixed!).

  • New wood veneer floorboards that expanded/contracted with the weather - leaving huge cracks in between the floorboards
  • A range hood was promised before we signed the lease (rookie mistake on our part!)
  • The hottest heating pipes in 2 of the bedrooms (perhaps a first world problem, but it was barely livable nonetheless)
  • and last but not least, the LOUDEST CLANGING IN ALL THE LAND (clanging pipes)

It took a visit from the manager and building owners to get some action on these items.  We had taken so many videos of the clanging, begging for something to be done - but it wasn't until the owner was chatting with me in the living room and the clanging started overhead that he realized that we were not exaggerating AT ALL.  He almost jumped out of his skin.

Four years later and we're back up with begging for work to be done in our apartment. The whole building has been without gas for over a month now, and we're not quite sure when to expect it back. What will follow this post will be essentially our log of how things are going in Apt 24.

But even with all things considered, we still love our little home here in Astoria, and if only things could get fixed permanently ...
